Just when I think the big city attitudes about my rural homeland are exagerated . . . .<BR/><BR/>I recall an event from the early '80's in which Mel Blanc came to Walla Walla for a public appearance. Grandmother Barer grew up with Blanc in the Portland Jewish community, so it would have been a gas to show up with her at the show. But neither I nor Grandmother could go, because that evening we were having a family event involving Grandmother. Alas, Grandmother passed away a few years later, and Blanc also passed away a few years after that.
